  2. Tingmosgang: Confluence of Indus and Zanskar, Alchi Monastery, Lamayuru Monastery, Moonland

  3. Nubra Valley: Khardung la pass, Diskit village, Diskit Monastery, Hunder Village, Sand Dunes at Hunder, Sumur, Panamik Hot Springs, Bactrian camel habitat.

  4. Pangong Lake: Marvel at the view of the breathtaking Himalayas encircling the pristine lake

  5. Changla Pass: another high.

Ladakh Experience Itinerary

  • Arrive at Leh airport and transfer to the hotel. Take complete rest for acclimatization to high altitude to avoid mountain sickness. Take a stroll in Leh Market for orientation in the evening (optional). Overnight at Leh.

  • Sight-seeing tour of important cultural and religious sites of the region. Visit Tsempo Temple atop the mountain north of Leh town to have an ariel view of Leh, visit the 16th Century Leh Palace (mud and stone building of 9 stories build on the surface of slopy rocky hill, still standing fine – a architectural wonder!), visit the Samkar Gonpa, monastery in the heart of Leh town and Shanti Stupa, a monument built for world peace by a Japanese Buddhist sect atop the western hill in Leh. Overnight at Leh

  • After breakfast start on the cultural journey to the lower Indus or Western Ladakh/Sham trip. Visit Sangma (confluence of Zangskar and Indus rivers), Alchi a 1000+ years old Temples, often called the Ajanta of North India, popular for the frescos and ancient architecture, visit Lamayuru Gonpa/Monastery, one of the most beautifully located sites in the region, on a basin of gushed out ancient lake called the Moon Land and reach Tingmosgang village – one the capital of Ladakh for a short time with imposing old castles and temple still standing majestically on the mountain projection in the middle of the twin villages of Tia and Tingmosgang. Overnight at Namra village Hotel.

  • After breakfast visit the ancient temple of Maitrey Buddha, Tingmosgang Palace and Nunnery in Tingmosgang and drive to Leh. Enroute visit the Ridzong monastery located beautifully in the lap of mountains into a deep valley. Also visit Likir Monastery and stop at Magnetic Hill, Gurdwara Pathar Sahib and Hall of Fame military Museum. Overnight at Leh.

  • After breakfast drive to Nubra Valley across on the highest motor able roads in the world – the Khardong la pass (5377 m). Lanscape photo stops at South Pullur, Khardong la pass, South Pullu, Khardong la. Visit the most beautifully located monastery of Deskit atop a rocky hill, spend time at the imposing Maitrey Buddha statue facing the Saltoro range and further drive to Hundar village. Visit Sand Dunes and Bactrian Camel sight area. Overnight at Hundar or Deskit.

  • After breakfast drive to famous Pangong Lake via Shoyok route (entrance of Gawang Valley), Durbook and Tangtse. Spend the whole evening by the lake. Overnight at Deluxe Camp by the Pangong Lake.

  • After breakfast, drive back to Leh via Changla pass, another high passes in the region. On the way visit Chemday, Thiksay and Shey. Also can stop at the popular 3 idiot School shooting site now popularly known as the Rencho School! Thiksay is unmissable destination in Ladakh. The monastery commands a great view of the Indus Valley. Shey used to be the summer castle of the last kings of Ladakh in the line of Namgyal dynasty linage. Evening shopping walk to Leh Market. O/N Leh.

  • Transfer to KBR Leh airport for flight homewards.

So I dream of running away to the hills and wash myself anew under the cold falling waters. But I choose to slow travel for I choose to travel for my soul.
